At night, our eyes gazing up at the ceiling, the softness of our mattress beneath us. The curtains rustle, our eyelids close, and the thin veil separating dream from reality vanishes. And in these sleeping hours, we venture beyond our everyday selves, transcending the limitations of logic, gravity, and morality. We fight heroic battles, make love, fly into the heavens, embrace friends who have passed away… And then, the alarm sounds, and with the blink of an eye, we are back to our ceiling and mattress, back to the frail flesh and bones of reality.
Dreams and Shadows blurs this boundary between night and day, immersing the audience in a world of infinite possibilities. And in this shadowy space, in this in between world, we can finally come face to face with the truth of the complexity of who we are. Drawing on writings by Freud and Jung and paintings by the surrealist artists Dali and Magritte, Dreams and Shadows draws on the magical, physical wonder of circus arts, transporting us into the mysteries of the unknown.
Defy gravity. Resist reason. This is a performance for those who want to dream with their eyes open.
